Tom Coffman:

In a world of individuals striving to be an original item, Tu Ming simply is one. Who on earth would spend a week of work time sketching a face with a silver pencil on dark blue paper? Face after face, week after week, month after month, year after year? The result goes to the heart of the subject and likely will hit the gut of the viewer.

Tom Coffman, independent researcher, writer and producer, explored American imperialism in the Pacific in his 1998 book and PBS documentary "Nation Within." Other book credits include "Catch a Wave, A Case Study of Hawaii Politics," and "The Island Edge of America." His two-hour documentary on the development of Korean America, "Arirang," is currently playing on PBS stations around the country.
